I will be linking this to everybody because I expect to keep talking a lot about this.
The code issue is no longer a problem. (I’m not a coder, I can’t explain why in any detail — but the official response from AO3 when people ask about it is, that code has been fixed.)
Do you have a source for this?? because I'd love to link people to it, so far I've just been quoting your discord messages at people lol
Also, I was talking to a tag wrangler who joined pretty recently (post-2022), and they told me that the Official Training Materials *still* warn new wranglers not to use metatags because they strain the servers!!
I know keeping documentation up-to-date is difficult* and writing onboarding materials is difficult (we're struggling to address both of these issues over on Fanlore) but it's been years and there's a lot more Tag Wranglers than Fanlore editors.
Excellent post thank you!

*As I write, the Tag Wrangler guidelines haven't been fully updated -- Part 4 ( Archive.org snapshot of part 4's language a month ago) says metatags are deprecated, but Part 14 (Archive.org snapshot of part 14's language a month ago) still has the old language
